It wouldn’t be Halloween without some spooky news. And conveniently, we have something of the spectral variety for you to feast on – the commencement of shooting on the film version of super-spooky West End hit, Ghost Stories.
Based on Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman’s Olivier-nominated play (which has caused audiences from London, Sydney, Moscow and more to sleep with the light on), the big-screen frightfest will see Nyman return in the lead as spectral skeptic Professor Goodman. When a letter from beyond the grave makes him question his non-beliefs, Goodman sets out on a journey to meet three individuals with tales that definitely go ‘bump’ in the night.
Like Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, Ghost Stories’ stage production tasks the audience with keeping its secrets. Who will be protecting the twists and turns on the big screen? Martin Freeman, Alex Lawther and Paul Whitehouse are joining Nyman, who is also in the co-director’s seat with Dyson, in hoping to give their audience “an unforgettable experience that makes them laugh, scream and haunts their dreams".
“I’m delighted to be on board Ghost Stories,” says Freeman. “Andy and Jeremy’s script is funny, scary and extremely surprising. And they have amazing taste in actors.”
Filming is underway in Yorkshire for the next five weeks, with Lionsgate releasing the film in the UK. A release date is yet to be announced.
