The past year has been very good to Mahershala Ali, with projects such as Luke Cage, Hidden Figures and particularly Moonlight all doing well. And fresh off of winning a SAG award for the latter, he's in talks to join the cast of Triple Frontier.

Once spearheaded by Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal, it's now being directed by J.C. Chandor, and has already snagged the services of Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum.

Set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, the film will chronicle the difficult efforts to combat organised crime in the area where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge.

Bigelow is still aboard as a producer and Chandor is working from Boal's script. As for Ali, he'll be seen in next year's Alita: Battle Angel, due on 20 July.
