Looks like World War II thrillers with supernatural undertones are becoming something of a trend. We already have Ghosts Of War on the radar and here comes the new Bad Robot project, Overlord, recruiting Everybody Wants Some!! co-star Wyatt Russell and Fences' Jovan Adepo.

Paramount is backing this one, which has a script by Billy Ray and The Revenant's Mark L. Smith and Son Of A Gun's Julius Avery in the director's chair. Overlord is set on the eve of D-Day and finds a group of American paratroopers dropped behind enemy lines for a mission that they've been told is crucial to the invasion's success.

But as they approach their target, a Nazi-occupied village, they discover that there is something much scarier and more dangerous going on, as the enemy's experimental tinkering with supernatural forces has unleashed something truly dangerous for the soldiers to fight. Given J.J. Abrams' attachment as producer, expect there to be speculation as to whether this one fits into the Cloverfield extended universe.

Overlord should be starting shooting this May in the UK. Russell has several movies headed our way, including Table 19 (7 April) and Goon sequel Goon: Last Of The Enforcers. Adepo is part of the cast for The Leftovers and has a role in Darren Aronofsky's new film, Mother!, due out on 3 November.
