Young adult novels are seemingly still all the rage in the world of adaptations, with Game Of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie the latest to dip her toes in the genre for upcoming sci-fi, The Darkest Minds.

Last seen on the big screen as The Force Awakens’ Captain Phasma (and in an Ab Fab cameo), Christie will join Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games), Mandy Moore (This Is Us) and a collection of young up-and-comers in the adaptation of Alexandra Bracken’s YA trilogy. Jennifer Yuh Nelson will be in the director’s chair – her first live-action outing after helming both _Kung Fu Panda_s 1 and 2.

The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic America where 98% of children have been wiped out by a vicious disease, and the remaining 2% develop superhuman powers. Those remaining super-kids are rounded up and put into government-run internment camps for the safety of themselves and those around them. Stenberg plays Ruby, the 16-year-old who manages to escape the camp with a group of superpowered teens in tow. Christie will play the government-hired bounty hunter tasked with tracking the young fugitives down at any cost.

The Darkest Minds hits cinemas in late 2018. Christie will be returning to our television screens in July for Game Of Thrones Season 7, and our cinemas for Episode VIII come December 15.
