Sally Hawkins won praise at last year's Toronto Film Festival for her performance in based-on-truth tale Maudie. And now, after a few other festival stops, the biopic is headed to our screens in a little under a month. See the trailer below and the poster lower down the page.
Aisling Walsh directs this one, which also stars Ethan Hawke. Maudie tells the story of Maud Lewis, a bright-eyed and smart woman dealing with crippling arthritis who has to make a change in her life. She yearns to live independently from her cold, oppressive family and find an outlet for her artwork.
Maud spots her chance when she takes a job as housemaid for the curmudgeonly and reclusive fish seller Everett (Hawke). Soon, a quiet romance is blooming and Maud is finding success selling her paintings.
With Sherry White writing the script and a cast that also includes Gabrielle Rose, Kari Matchett and Billy MacLellan, Maudie will arrive in UK cinemas on 4 August.
