Already used to dealing with rogues and random creatures for her day job on Game Of Thrones, Emilia Clarke is swapping Westeros for the galaxy far, far away, joining the cast of the still-untitled young Han Solo Star Wars stand-alone.

The news was announced via the official Star Wars site, but no details were included about her character, only that, "Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures." It's also unclear whether she'll be the female lead, as her name wasn't among those ferreted out recently.

Han, of course, is being played by Alden Ehrenreich, who won the role over thousands of potentials. The story will follow Han's younger days before he meets the Rebellion, his adventures with Chewie and his friendship/disagreements with fellow scoundrel Lando Calrissian, to be brought to life by Donald Glover. Clarke's a fine choice and will hopefully have some fun with the part.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, working from a script by Jon and Lawrence Kasdan, are directing and the movie itself is aiming for a 2018 release. The first of the new stand-alones, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives in the UK on 15 December.
