Isle Of Dogs

Following his Fantastic Mr. Fox of a few years ago, Wes Anderson is returning to animation for his next film: the "dog project" we now know to be entitled Isle Of Dogs. And with that comes the first image, or at least the first look at one of the characters. This is Rex, "an important lead dog" according to Edward Norton, who'll be voicing him.

The picture comes from a video Anderson released yesterday, officially announcing both the film itself and an accompanying crowd-funder and raffle to support Martin Scorsese's preservation project The Film Foundation. Cool prizes include the chance to voice one of Isle Of Dogs' characters.

If you won that, Anderson reveals you'd be heard in some form alongside Norton, F. Murray Abraham, Bob Balaban, Bud Cort, Bryan Cranston, Greta Gerwig, Jeff Goldblum, Akira Ito, Scarlett Johansson, Harvey Keitel, Kunichi Nomura, Yoko Ono, Koyu Rankin, Liev Schreiber, Tilda Swinton, Akira Takayama, Frances McDormand, Frank Wood and – just as we predicted last year – Anderson's lucky charm Bill Murray.

The film will shoot in England, is set in Japan, and follows a boy's odyssey in search of his – you guessed it – dog. Fox Searchlight have acquired Isle Of Dogs' wordwide rights, and anticipate that they'll have it in cinemas sometime in 2018.
