One got her big break in films such as The Guest and It Follows. The other has taken over the role of the Transporter and was Deadpool's villain. Now Maika Monroe and Ed Skrein are starring together in a new sci-fi thriller called Tau.
Man Of Steel's David Goyer is producing the film, with Federico D'Alessandro in the director's chair working from Noga Landau's script. Tau finds Monroe as a smart con woman called Julia who is kidnapped and imprisoned in a dangerous experiment. Locked inside a smart house, her only way out might be through the titular creation (designed by her captor, Alex, played by Skrein), an advanced artificial intelligence that controls the drones and other functions of the house. Julia must find some way to get through to the machine and somehow make good her escape before she meets the same fate as some of the previous subjects.
Waypoint Entertainment is backing this one, and the rights will be on sale at the Cannes Film Market. Monroe will next be seen in Independence Day: Resurgence (out on June 24) playing Patricia, the daughter of former president Whitmore (Bill Pullman). Skrein has worked on the thriller In Darkness and is attached to another sci-fi project, Gateway 6.
