One of the more curious elements of Fast & Furious 8 (or The Fate Of The Furious for America) was – spoiler alert – how far the script bends over backwards to retcon Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw. And how much they turned his hate-hate relationship with Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs into something approaching bromance. Now, according to Deadline, very early talks are underway to craft a spin-off for The Stath and The Rock.
We can't help but underline the "early" part of this – while Statham and Johnson certainly made for a good pair in the new Fast film, whether trying to punch one another or begrudgingly working together, there is no official deal in place yet. But meetings have been held and regular writer Chris Morgan would be the man to crank out the script if it should happen. And it could slide into place between two outings of the main franchise, though we do wonder when Johnson in particular will have free time given his hectic schedule. It's not like he hasn't brought up the idea in the past, though...
Yet with the eighth film of the franchise soaring ($685 million worldwide and counting after a week on release), it's certainly a no-brainer for the studio to look at spin-offs. And who better to anchor one than the baldie duo with the big biceps?
