The Screen Actors Guild was all about spreading the love around for its awards ceremony on Sunday night. There were the odd expected winner (Emma Stone for La La Land), but most films and shows made do with one award apiece, with a couple of exceptions, including Fences, which won for leading man Denzel Washington and co-star Viola Davis.
The Fences win for Washington was hardly shocking, but a little surprising given Casey Affleck's momentum this awards season for Manchester By The Sea. Hidden Figures took a well-deserved ensemble award, while Mahershala Ali won his latest trophy for his superb performance in Moonlight. And since he was part of Hidden Figures' ensemble, he won two awards tonight...
On the TV front, Stranger Things got the ensemble prize, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sarah Paulson added to their already hefty trophy count for Veep and The People V. O.J. Simpson, respectively. There was also plenty of praise for The Crown, as the Netflix series won both leading performer categories in drama for Claire Foy and John Lithgow.
