Director David Ayer clearly liked Ike Barinholtz's scene-stealing, if relatively brief, turn as Griggs in Suicide Squad. Because the director has now added him to the cast for his latest, fantasy cop thriller Bright.

The cameras are rolling now on the movie, which stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton and was spawned from the brain of Max Landis. Bright is set in a world where magic is a run-of-the-mill part of life. Smith and Edgerton are a human and an orc who must outrun the authorities, criminals and a variety of supernatural beings to protect a powerful magic wand. Lucy Fry is on as Tikka, a young elf with her own magical abilities who comes into possession of the wand and needs the leads' help when dark forces try to hunt her down.

Edgar Ramirez, Brad William Henke and Noomi Rapace are all in the cast for this one, which has the backing of Netflix and should be in cinemas next year before starting its run on the streaming service.

In addition to his Squad duties this year, Barinholtz was seen in Bad Neighbours 2 and co-wrote Central Intelligence. He's been busy working on Amy Schumer's new film and has a role in Felt, the drama about FBI agent Mark Felt, who supplied intel in the Watergate case as Deep Throat.
