Having caused some mixed – as in between jubilation and disgust – reactions when it premiered at Sundance this January, quirksome comedy drama Swiss Army Man promises to be like no other film you'll see this year. Check out the trailer below, which features Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano.
Here, Dano is Hank, desperate, lonely and ready to commit suicide after being stranded on a desert island and losing all hope of seeing home again. But everything changes when a corpse named Manny (Radcliffe) washes ashore and, in an unlikely turn of events, the pair become fast friends. Soon, they're off on an epic adventure to help Hank get back to the woman of his dreams.
Directed by music video specialists Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan (who are collectively known as DANIELS), the film aims to be comic, whimsical and affecting, even as it features one of Britain's best known actors playing a corpse who farts a lot. And, on occasion, talks. Yeah, that... old story?
With Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Timothy Eulich and Richard Gross in the cast, Swiss Army Man will open in limited release the States on June 17 before going wider on July 1. There's no sign of a UK date, or even a distributor yet. And you've got to wonder at company reps hearing that it co-stars Radcliffe ("we'll take it!") and then learning the plot ("he plays WHAT? We'll... get back to you.")
