Dan Stevens in Legion

If you've been watching and enjoying Legion – the X-Men spin-off series that tends to keep its ties to the comics in the background in favour of hallucinatory imagery and twisty plotting – you'll be happy to learn that the show has scored a second season renewal from its US home network.

Created by Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley, Legion stars Dan Stevens as David Haller, a man we meet when he's in a psychiatric hospital, after being told most of his life that he has a serious mental illness. As it turns out, what other people think are symptoms of a problem might actually be the manifestation of great powers... Powers that will be attractive to enemies both within and without.

"The first season of Legion was a stunning achievement," says FX original programming co-president Eric Schrier. "More than a new series, Legion is a wholly original take on the superhero genre. Our thanks to Noah Hawley for taking the creative risks and shattering expectations. It’s a privilege to work again with Noah, his producing partners, the outstanding cast and our partners at Marvel Television on another season of Legion."

Legion currently airs on Wednesday nights on FX in the States and on Thursday evenings on FOX UK in Britain.
