Real-Life drama is a constant source of inspiration for films, and we've already had the new Deepwater Horizon trailer today. Now comes news that Colin Firth is locking in a deal to star alongside Matthias Schoenaerts in sub disaster movie Kursk.
Thomas Vinterberg, who made last year's version of Far From The Madding Crowd, is aboard to direct the real-life story of the sinking of the Kursk submarine. The nuclear-powered Russian vessel, which was the pride of the country's navy, sank to the bottom of the Barents scene in August 2000. The crew's struggle to survive hit international headlines, and their families had to battle political pressure and a ticking clock to try to rescue them.
Robert Rodat adapted the book from Robert Moore's non-fiction tome about the incident, A Time To Die, and Luc Besson's EuropaCorp company is backing the new film.
Firth will next show up here as Mark Darcy Bridget Jones's Baby (which has a due date of September 16) and may well be returning to one of his other most popular roles in a certain sequel...
