Though there have been concerns that some of his more recent work hasn't channelled the same pure comic joy as the likes of Waiting For Guffman or Best In Show, it's always exciting when Christopher Guest gathers a group of his usual performing ensemble and takes a look at a particular subject. In this case, we have the footage-free teaser for Mascots, his latest.
You don't see anything of the actual movie, but the basic setup is thus: Mascots is set in the ultra-competitive world of sports mascots, where the people inside the big foam suits go up against one another for the most prestigious trophy in their field, the Gold Fluffy.
Guest has such regulars as Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Ed Begley Jr., Michael Hitchcock, Jennifer Coolidge, Bob Balaban, and Jim Piddock in this one, along with the likes of Chris O'Dowd (who appeared in his Sky TV series Family Tree), and a new recruit for the comic larks, Love & Friendship scene thief Tom Bennett.
Following a world premiere at this September's Toronto Film Festival, the movie will hit Netflix on October 13.
