It's rarely a good idea when former lovers (especially when they both happen to be veteran CIA agents) reunite on screen, but apparently the characters to be played by Chris Pine and Michelle Williams decided to ignore that advice. The duo are set to star in All The Old Knives.

According to Variety, The Theory Of Everything's James Marsh is sorting out a deal to direct the new thriller, which Berlin Station's Olen Steinhauer has adapted from his novel. Knives is set in the quiet town of Carmel-by-the-sea, where ex-lovers Henry and Celia (he still in the CIA, she retired and with a family) meet over dinner to discuss and hopefully wrap up what was officially called the Frankler Case. Better known to the agents as "the 2006 Vienna Airport disaster," the event saw a militant Muslim group, seemingly aided by a source within the US embassy, took a commercial jet hostage. Everyone aboard died and there are still questions lingering. But as the meal continues, it's not clear whether Henry is there to try to rekindle their love or to investigate a conspiracy. And there could be death before dessert...

The Mark Gordon Company and eOne are providing the financing for this one, which should shoot this year. Williams has Wonderstruck and The Greatest Showman due this year and recently joined Ridley Scott's All The Money In The World. Pine will be back on our screens in Wonder Woman (1 June) and has A Wrinkle In Time landing on 6 April next year.
