2017 is a big year for Stephen King adaptations. Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba are the stars of long-awaited fantasy The Dark Tower, a new version of It will also be hitting our screens, and now 1992 novel Gerald’s Game will be joining the roster.

Helmed by Oculus and Hush’s Mike Flanagan and set to be a Netflix release, Bruce Greenwood and Carla Gugino have signed on the dotted line for the leads.

For those unfamiliar, King’s book sees a romantic weekend turn drastically sour as a husband and wife’s fun games become increasingly dark when they discover someone (or some_thing_) might be lurking in the shadows.

Gerald’s Game has been my dream project for nearly 20 years,” says Flanagan. “As a lifelong fan of Stephen King, it is a true honour to be trusted with this amazing material.”

Flanagan’s latest, Ouija: Origin Of Evil, hits cinemas this Friday.
