Not content with adapting Stephen King for Netflix, Oculus and Gerald's Game director Mike Flanagan has cooked up some terrifying TV too. The Haunting Of Hill House promises creepiness across 10 episodes, and the trailer has arrived.

Here, Flanagan is re-imagining and updating Shirley Jackson's eponymous classic 1959 horror tome.

The book has been adapted twice before, both times for cinemas, in 1963 and 1999, where it was always just called The Haunting. A tale of one particularly spooky residence, the story finds four strangers spending time overnight in the titular house – a supernatural investigator, a shy young woman, a boisterous artist and the young man who is heir to the place. All have some history with the paranormal, but none of them are prepared for the terrifying events that occur...

The trailer focuses on the siblings who grew up in the place, plagued by scary dreams and worried about their deadly destinies.

With Carla Gugino, McKenna Grace, Michiel Huisman, Timothy Hutton and Henry Thomas in the cast, the show will arrive on 12 October.
