In August last year, there was much chatter about the fact that Brad Pitt was trying to convince his old mucker David Fincher to direct the World War Z sequel that Paramount has been trying to get off the ground since the first film proved a surprising moneymaker. Not much had been said since, but with the arrival of new studio boss Jim Gianopulos (who worked with them both when he was at Fox), it appears that Fincher is ready to commit.
The follow-up to the 2013 zombie outbreak film has been slowly developing at the studio, but was yanked from the release schedule last year when it was thrown into some chaos by Pitt's divorce. It seems things are back on track, as Fincher is in the process of making a deal, replacing Juan Antonio Bayona, who was lured away to direct the Jurassic World sequel.
According to Variety the zombie follow-up isn't officially a go yet, but Gianopulos is expected to make it one of the first movies he sets into motion as he starts his tenure at the top of Paramount. If everything falls into place, the cameras should be rolling early next year. And there's no word on the current status of the script, but the last person mentioned as a writer was Utopia's Dennis Kelly, who has some experience with Fincher as the director was looking to adapt his Channel 4 series for HBO in the States...
