He's about to launch his version of an iconic horror with the new movie of Stephen King's It, but director Andy Muschietti has his eye on another. He's now attached to develop and potentially direct Dracul.
The title should be a dead – or undead – giveaway, as the potential movie will be adapted from a prequel to Bram Stoker's Dracula. But far from being some knock-off new horror tome, it's actually the first authorised prequel from the Stoker estate. Written by Dacre Stoker – the original author's great-grand nephew – and J.D. Barker, the story is set in 1868, where 21-year-old Bram Stoker meets a terrible evil, and ends up trapping it in a tower, all the while documenting his encounter and turning that into his famous tome.
Dracul was at the centre of a bidding war for the publishing rights, and Paramount snapped up the chance to make it into a film. Muschietti hasn't decided if he'll definitely make the movie, but he's on board to produce with sister Barbara and Roy Lee. It, meanwhile, stalks into UK cinemas on Friday.
