When is a teaser trailer not quite a trailer tease but still teases the coming of the trailer? Yes, we're still trying to figure that one, but while you do, watch the first footage from sci-fi drama Arrival, which stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker.
Images from Arrival landed yesterday, but now we get more of a sense of the film, which definitely has a Close Encounters Of The Third Kind feel about it, if seemingly a little colder on initial inspection than Steven Spielberg's movie.
Adams is linguist Louise Banks, recruited by the military when a mysterious alien species arrives on Earth in gigantic pods that hover above the ground. She'll be part of the team making first contact, which also includes Whitaker's Colonel Weber and Renner's physicist Ian Donnelly.
As for the aliens... Well, the teaser at least cannily holds back any real idea of what they look like and how they communicate, but we're promised the full trailer on August 16, so perhaps they'll be an all-singing, all-dancing troupe of wafting-robes types with glowing spheres for heads.
Adapted from Ted Chiang's 1998 novella Story Of Your Life by Lights Out's Eric Heisserer, Arrival has Sicario's Denis Villeneuve behind the camera and we now officially know that the film lands here on November 11.
