Lara Croft is returning to cinemas, and we now know exactly when she will be raiding tombs again: MGM and Warner Bros have announced that the Tomb Raider reboot will arrive in cinemas on March 16, 2018.
A brand new film based on the best-selling adventure video game had been mooted for some time, but things have started moving very quickly since Oscar winner Alicia Vikander was announced to star as the famous grave-digging adventurer.
The new film looks likely to reflect the recent rebooted Tomb Raider video games, which took a slightly more realistic approach than the laughably-proportioned iterations of the character in the early 1990s. The film will apparently be an origin story, depicting a young and untested Lara Croft embarking on her first adventure.
As The Wrap reports, that’s the same date that Warner Bros were rumoured to be releasing The Flash, which will probably see a short delay at this rate.
The tremendously-named Roar Uthaug is in the director’s seat for Tomb Raider, and filming is likely to start early next year.
Over 35 million games have been sold in the series, which has already spawned two lukewarmly-received films, starring Angelina Jolie. Could it be the film to break the video game adaptation curse?
