While the Godzilla sequel is only just now cranking into production, Legendary and Warner Bros. are wasting no time in locking down a director to make the next monster movie. The Guest's Adam Wingard will oversee Godzilla Vs. Kong.

In what has been a growing pattern of the monster movies (and other creature features) plucking directors from the lower budget world to try their hand at huge scale (in every sense of the word) projects. Wingard, who also made films such as You're Next and last year's Blair Witch reboot, will now develop the film, working from a blueprint laid down by Pirates Of The Caribbean veteran Terry Rossio, who oversaw a writers room that featured the likes of J. Michael Straczynski, TS Nowlin and duo Patrick McKay and JD Payne.

While nothing has been said about the plot (surely that will mostly speak for itself?), we do know the movie is taking aim at a 22 May, 2020 release in the UK. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, meanwhile, crashes in on 22 March 2019.
