Given the profile of her character in the pre-release advertising, it was somewhat surprising how small the scope of Captain Phasma - AKA Gwendoline Christie – turned out to be in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But if you were hoping that it wasn't the last we'll see of her, you'll be glad to know that Christie herself has confirmed she'll show up in the next main instalment.

Walking the red carper at Saturday's Screen Actors Guild Awards, Christie was asked by People magazine whether Phasma will be back for more threatening, chrome-armoured antics in Episode VIII. "I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that's an exclusive, actually," she replied, giving hope to everyone who wants to see how much of a badass Phasma can be.

Rian Johnson is now starting to shoot the new film, wrapped in the typical veil of secrecy that comes with the franchise these days. While we know it will continue the story of Finn, Rey and the rest, while also digging into what – spoiler alert – Luke has been up to, we'll have to wait until December 2017 to see it. Let's hope we find Phasma escaped that trash compactor. Did she have helpful astromech droid of her own on hand to chat with the computer?

As for Christie, she'll be back as Brienne of Tarth for the new season of Game Of Thrones, which kicks off in the UK on April 25.
