Having already dipped into the realm of Game Of Thrones for their leading man, the producers of Marvel and Netflix's Iron Fist have raided Westeros again to find another key component. Jessica Henwick is joining the cast to play Colleen Wing.
The character, who first appeared in Marvel Premiere issue 19, will be seen here as a martial arts expert who runs her own dojo and becomes an invaluable ally to Danny Rand (Finn Jones).
Iron Fist dates back to the Bruce Lee-obsessed days of the early ‘70s. To borrow from Black Dynamite, it combines “scientific biological transmogrification” (he got a superfist by placing his hand in a molten dragon's heart) with “kung-fu treachery” (his parents’ business partner Harold Meachum caused both their deaths when Rand was a nipper). Expect him to start out with revenge in mind, before new adversaries spring up around him.
“I’m very excited to have Jessica as our Colleen Wing,” says executive producer/showrunner, Scott Buck. “She’s shown us that she can bring both a sense of quiet strength as well as an engaging vulnerability to the character.”
Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb added his praise: “Jessica brings both a youthful vitality mixed with a strong sense of authority crucial to the character. And as anyone who’s seen her in Game Of Thrones can attest, she can throw down with the best of them, making her the perfect Colleen Wing.”
Henwick, who played Nymeria Sand on Thrones, also appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as an X-Wing pilot and will be seen as part of the cast for Fortitude's second season, due to air later this year.
