Kirk, Scotty, Bones, Sulu and all the Trekky regulars defy higher orders and take the Enterprise on a vigilante mission across space to resurrect their comrade, Spock. Alerted by the prospect of a scrumdown with an old enemy, the Klingons set out to intercept Kirk. But can anything stand in the way of our lycra-clab tubby hero...?

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

Not quite as good as voyages II or IV, but light years ahead of I, Leonard Spock Nimoys directorial debut has Kirk and crew going AWOL with the Enterprise to chase after their fallen comrade. This is an atypically tragic Trek, with more than the usual poleaxed extras getting their share of pain here. Nimoy obviously relishes being behind the camera for a change, and being in the position to administer all kinds of intergalactic torment on his space buddies.

Moments to watch out for are a Kirk reunion and a rebirth of the Genesis planet that is something to behold on the big screen. There is enough here to guarantee at least a couple more outings for the ageing posse.

Impressive visual invention by Nimoy and the reliability of his cast mean that Trek III does more good than harm to a franchise still competing with it's younger, more tehnologically advanced adversaries.
