UPDATE: Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' Rupert Wyatt has been hired to direct the pilot. Certainly a solid choice of director, even if our opinion on the series remains in the "wait and see" column.
Despite its seeming classic status, The Exorcist has never been completely untouchable. Sequels and prequels have followed, yet not a total reboot. But now someone is thinking that William Peter Blatty's 1971 source book is ripe for a TV version.
Writer/producer Jeremy Slater, who scripted low-budget horror The Lazarus Effect and worked on the script for last year's Fantastic Four, is taking the basic concept of a family dealing with demonic possession and turning it into a serialized psychological thriller as two men try to help combat the forces of pure evil.
Fox TV in the States has bought this one, despite recent failures with turning respected movies into series with the likes of Minority Report, which lasted nine episodes in 2015. It remains to be seen if this one can succeed – or indeed make it past the pilot process.
