While the Toronto Film Festival is more usually known for its awards-calibre offerings, helping to push Oscar season into full swing, it also has its Midnight Madness strand, pumped full of genre fare. Which this year includes a premiere for the new Iko Uwais action movie Headshot. The first trailer is below.
Directed by Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto (and written by the latter), Headshot finds the Raid actor in Jason Bourne territory, if The Bourne Identity had been directed by John Woo with fewer concerns about violence restrictions. Uwais plays Ismail, who wakes up from an injury with chunks of his memory missing. He's nursed back to health by a young woman who he falls for, but that burgeoning relationship is shoved into jeopardy by the discovery that he's A) a trained killer and B) has to battle some nasty drug henchmen.
Expect all the Indonesian brawling action you could hope for, alongside plenty of inventive ways to dispatch bad guys.
UK audiences will be able to catch Headshot at the Mayhem Film Festival, which runs in Nottingham between October 13 and 16. It'll get a wider UK release courtesy of Arrow Films later this year.
