As it tracked down a director (Stephen S. DeKnight, taking over for the first movie's Guillermo del Toro, who has stepped back to be producer and-co-writer this time) and began gathering a cast including John Boyega and Scott Eastwood, Pacific Rim's sequel has sometimes been referred to as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom. Now, thanks to Boyega's Instagram feed, we have some confirmation of the title.
Boyega posted the above of his script cover as production kicked off on the movie. Not a lot is known about the plot, save for that it'll feature more action between the giant, piloted robots known as Jaegers and the massive creatures from another dimension called Kaiju. Boyega is set as the son of the late Stacker Pentecost, as played by Idris Elba in the first film.
The likes of Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Levi Meaden and Ivanna Sakhno are also in the cast for the movie, which has a script that has seen work from del Toro, Derek Connolly and Emily Carmichael, among others.
DeKnight has the cameras rolling now for a 23 February, 2018 release.
