When he’s not busy crafting his own movies, like the recent Win Win, Tom McCarthy dabbles as both an actor (he’s cropped up in everything from The Lovely Bones to 2012 and Baby Mama) and a writer for hire (he helped out, for example, on the story for Pixar’s Up.) And he’s just accepted another scripting gig, signing on to write Home Movies.
Or perhaps re-write is the proper word, since the concept was originally cooked up inside the studio and has a first draft penned by **Mr Popper's Penguins **co-writer Jared Stern. McCarthy will tackle the tale of a man who discovers he can revisit set moments in his life captured in home movies and make changes. There’s not much more known about the story just yet, but we’re betting there will be ramifications thanks to any changes made. Since it’s described as a “supernatural family comedy” however, we doubt anyone will be dying or that the world will come to an end. Unless it’s funny...
There’s no word on a director or any casting at this early stage, and the Heat Vision Blog doesn’t say whether McCarthy will end up directing the film itself (it doesn’t sound like his usual fare, but who knows?) Given that Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps company is on board to produce the film, there’s always a chance the **Real Steel **director could add it to his bulging cache of possible projects.
