Currently busy shooting his latest directing/starring job, Ben Affleck has added one of his lucky charms, someone who has worked on every film that he’s made in his career behind the camera to date. Titus Welliver is joining Live By Night.
Affleck’s latest adaptation of a novel by Gone Baby Gone's Dennis Lehane finds characters from one of the writer’s previous books (The Given Day) and tracks them into the Prohibition era. Our main focus is Joe Coughlin (Affleck himself), a police captain’s son who, with his brother Danny (Scott Eastwood), becomes caught up in organised crime as part of a rum-smuggling organization that transports booze from Cuba to Boston via Florida. According to The Wrap’s sources, Welliver will be Tim Hickey, the boss of Joe’s gang and something of a mentor to him.
Welliver joins an ensemble that also includes Sienna Miller as Emma Gould, who Coughlin falls for, but who also happens to be Hickey's daughter. Then there’s Zoe Saldana as Graciella Suarez, part of the Floridian crime structure and Elle Fanning playing sheriff’s daughter Loretta Figgis, an aspiring actress who finds herself in a world of trouble. And that’s just the main cast, with Chris Messina, Chris Cooper, Anthony Michael Hall and recent addition Brendan Gleeson (playing Coughlin’s father) aboard. There’s no exact release date yet, but the film should be out in 2017. Welliver has just finished shooting the second season of Amazon drama Bosch, which is set to return to our TV screens next year.
