With Spider-Man: Homecoming being released to cinemas this July, Sony's spider-sense must be tingling like crazy, because the web-slinger's expanded film universe is well underway. Besides the fast-tracked Venom feature and the Miles Morales-centric animated film scheduled for 21 December 2018, now comes word of a team-up of the characters Silver Sable and Black Cat.

Looking at a production start in the fall, Chris Yost, who had penned various animated Marvel adventures and most recently worked on the screenplay for this November's Thor: Ragnarok, has been brought aboard to script. Producers are Amy Pascal and Matt Tolmach, and a director search will begin shortly.

Created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, the character of Silver Sable made her debut in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man in 1985. Leader of the Wild Pack and CEO of Silver Sable International, as a mercenary she is a hunter of war criminals. She has, over the years, worked alongside heroes of the Marvel Universe and also gone up against them when her methods proved in conflict with those heroes. The character had previously appeared on Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Spider-Man: The New Animated Series and The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Black Cat, created by Marv Wolfman and Keith Pollard, first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man in 1979. Her real name is Felicia Hardy, and she's the daughter of a world famous cat burglar. Raped during her college years, she came out the other side of that experience determined never to be a victim again. Deciding to emulate her father, but assuming the identity of the Black Cat to do so, she mastered acrobatics and numerous fighting styles. Going to "work," she found herself battling Marvel heroes, most notably Spider-Man.

Felicity Jones played Felicia Hardy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The character also appeared on Spider-Man: The Animated Series and The Spectacular Spider-Man.
