Simon Pegg Talks A Little Star Trek

We like Simon Pegg. We like Simon Pegg a lot. One of our number even stalked him at the Sony Ericsson Empire Awards. But today we're going to have to accuse him of being a big ol' liar. We don't like having to do that, but that's just how we roll.

JoBlo caught up with the actor this week and spoke to him a little about Star Trek, in which he'll play Scotty. Pegg was typically tight-lipped on the plot details of the film, but he did say he that he actually had to think a while before taking the part of the Enterprises' engineer. It also seems there was no audition process, pointing to Pegg's increasing standing in the US.

"[The offer of the role] was just a one sentence [email from JJ Abrams]. It said, ‘Would you like to be Scotty?'" Pegg says, then adding. "I agonised over it for a couple of days, ‘should I do this, is this the right thing for me to do?’ And eventually I decided it was because, you know, I love my job and my job is pretty much as much as I can about having fun. And this seemed to be a really fun thing to do. "

Surely, if you're a Star Trek fan, which Pegg is, you don't agonise over a decision like that? You run around your bedroom squealing for a few hours, then pull your convention costume out of the wardrobe and reply to that email with 'Beam me up'. We call lies and misdoings on you, Mr Pegg.*

For a little bit more of the interview, head to JoBlo, whose writers, it must be said, are delightful people. Some say they can cure cancer. We don't know if that's true, but you should probably just let them touch you anyway.

*We don't, actually. He's always struck us as honest, forthright and probably very nice to his mum.
