Miramax announced a new acquisition last week - the final novel from Godfather creator Mario Puzo. The Hollywood Reporter estimates that the famous 'Indie' studio - now owned by Disney - paid between $2-3m for Omerta, the novel Puzo finished shortly before his death in July, which is due to be published next year.
Like his hugely successful series about the Corleone family, Omerta - an Italian term for a code of honour -centres around the Mafia in America. Miramax's co-chairman Harvey Weinstein hinted that the story may become both a film and a television series, but gave no clues about the fate of the project.
