Patrick Stewart enjoys a lot of love on the internet - if only for his Twitter picture and the joy of the Jean-Luc Picard facepalm - but recently he's having a very purple patch, with his heartfelt response to a fan's question at a convention doing the rounds and this new snippet that sees Sir Patrick mention a few X-Men: Days Of Future Past titbits.
The footage above is from the amazingly-named Comicpalooza in Texas, where the mind-reading knight was talking to a group of adoring Comicpalooza attendees. Below is a transcription of what he said which, although not exactly eye-opening, remains interesting for anyone excited about Singer's return to the X-verse.
"I think it is going to certainly be the X-Men of all X-Men pictures, and one doesn't want to tempt fate, but perhaps also the blockbuster of 2014. It was a wonderful experience to reunited with those people."
"It's been 6 or 7 years since X-Men 3, where you will recall that Charles Xavier was vaporized by what's-her-name, Jean Grey. And you're asking yourselves, 'If you were vaporized, how can you be in the next X-Men movie?' Anybody got any ideas how that came about?"
"Time travel," yells a fan.
"Yeah, that's exactly it. I guess. There will be an explanation, but it was a little puzzling for me because I thought my X-Men days were over. So, it's something to look forward to."
Puzzling is just about right. Even if you have read the original Day Of Future Past comic-book run, how they are going to link the **First Class **crew up with their Last Stand colleagues (as well as The Wolverine) remains to be seen. Hopefully it won't require you to have the same IQ as Professor X to work out when it hits cinemas next year.
As well as Stewart, the crammed cast list includes Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Fan Bingbing, Anna Paquin and Daniel Cudmore. X-Men Days Of Future Past will be with us on July 17 2014.
