Because no TV channel or streaming service is seemingly complete without a superhero series these days, Marvel announced last year that it would spread its televisual tentacles to Disney-owned US cable channel Freeform with an adaptation of Cloak And Dagger. The main duo has now been found, with Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph winning the roles.
The comic book heroes, also known as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, are traditionally pair of teens from different backgrounds who bond when they're both dealing with emerging superpowers. Tandy's ability is emitting light daggers, while Tyrone can engulf people in darkness. They also start to fall for each other, and their relationship only makes things more complicated. On the show, the focus will be their coming-of-age story, showing how Tandy has overcome family tragedy and the closed-off Tyrone deals with opening up his life once he meets her.
“The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy. When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page. We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe,” says showrunner Joe Pokaski.
Marvel has yet to announce when it might hit US screens (and unlike, say Netflix, there's no immediate channel for the UK), but given the casting, it should be ready to air later this year.
