Iconic cop John Shaft has been played memorably by two men on screen so far: Richard Roundtree in the 1971 original, its sequels and spin-off TV take, and Samuel L. Jackson in the 2000 update. New Line feels it’s time for a new face to inherit the leather jacket and badass attitude, working up a Shaft reboot.

According to The Wrap, producer John Davis is spearheading the new version of the character, with few details yet on who’ll be making the movie or whether the character will, like Jackson’s version, be a relation of Roundtree’s original.

Given the racial tension in America at the moment, this could be a ripe time to revisit the tough ‘tec, though it’ll be a challenge for any actor to take over from Roundtree and Jackson. Which makes us throw the question out to you – who would you want to see take on the role?
