It may have only established cult status in the years since its release, but fantasy film Labyrinth certainly holds a place in film fans' hearts. So you can understand the consternation that someone would want to take another trip to that world, even someone with the respect of Guardians Of The Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony's TriStar arm has closed a deal with the Jim Henson company to create a new iteration of the Labyrinth story, which you might recall saw a youthful Jennifer Connelly navigating a weird maze to recover her infant brother from the diabolical (and diabolically charming) clutches of David Bowie's Goblin King Jareth.
No information has emerged about what form the new film will take – sequel? Side story? Prequel? But Perlman, who is also at work on Captain Marvel among other projects, has been hitting Twitter to calm fears of a remake or reboot.
She has reportedly been in talks with the Henson team since about 2014 about this, so she's clearly been doing a lot of thinking about the idea. And while Labyrinth re-entered our brains in a big way recently thanks to Bowie's death, the fact that the Henson company is involved gives a reason for hope.
