Natalie Dormer is usually found scheming as Margaery Tyrell on Game Of Thrones, but she’ll be playing a more selfless hero in Screen Gems’ new high concept thriller **Patient Zero.
Dormer has locked in the lead for the film, which Stefan Ruzowitzky is directing from a script written by Mike Le. **Patient Zero **finds a massive global pandemic triggering the evolution of a new species. A form of rabies causes the infected to turn into predators, with their own language and a lust for violence.
From the sounds of the description, Dormer will be a preternaturally gifted human survivor on the devastated Earth, who can speak the mutants’ new language and is leading a hunt for the original source of the infection – the patient zero of the title – and from there, a cure.
It certainly sounds like Screen Gems is trying to kick off another disease-tastic action franchise along the lines of Resident Evil, though perhaps with a little more drama in between the set pieces this time.
Meanwhile, Dormer will be back on the big screen in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, which lands here on November 20, and is currently onscreen in The Riot Club.
