Jessica Chastain must be so angry. There she was last week, queen of the box office with her turn in **Zero Dark Thirty **and now along comes some horror film with a wannabe goth-styled woman screaming away… Wait, no: that’s also Jessica Chastain. So she won’t be so upset. Yes, the Guillermo del Toro-produced, Andres Muschietti-directed Mama has lifted the box office crown this week with $28.1 million.
Still, Zero Dark Thirty held on well, adding $17.6 million for a $55.9 million total so far.** Silver Linings Playbook** expanded on the back of its awards buzz, leaping up to third place with $11.4 million. Gangster Squad was down to fourth with $9.1 Million and new arrival Broken City, featuring Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones, opened in fifth for a disappointing $9 million.
Sixth was** A Haunted House** with $8.3 million, while Django Unchained slipped to seventh and $8.2 million. **Les Miserable****s **was eighth ($7.8 million) and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey travelled down to ninth with $6.4 million.
But if Arnold Schwarzenegger had hoped that The Last Stand would be his big return to the screen (at least in leading terms after The Expendables 2), his expectations were dashed as the action thriller flopped into 10th place with $6.4 million.
