One of the biggest story threads left dangling at the end of Guardians Of The Galaxy was the identity of Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) father. Now we might know who will end up playing him as The Wrap reports that Marvel and director James Gunn are seriously considering Kurt Russell for the role.

We would caution that as of right now, this is still at a very early stage: the studio (which, like the director, sensibly hasn’t commented yet) has yet to send any kind of offer and Russell hasn’t read the script, but it’s definitely a good idea and one we’d love to see come to fruition. Having Russell share the screen with Pratt can only lead to entertaining scenes.

The mystery of Peter Quill’s pop is one that will be dealt with in the Guardians sequel – we know so far that he’s not human – but Gunn has yet to be drawn on which character, be it from the Marvel canon or outside, it will turn out to be. The writer/director is currently preparing to shoot the film in Atlanta, with cameras due to roll in February and a release date set for April 28, 2017.

As for Russell, he’s been seen this year in Fast & Furious 7 and will next show up in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight (due January 8) and Western horror Bone Tomahawk, out February 19.
