Charlize Theron and James McAvoy have already been cast at the top of The Coldest City, the graphic novel adaptation by John Wick director David Leitch. Now the casting continues, with the news that John Goodman is set to step aboard.
Dead Space/Wasteland writer Antony Johnston is behind the source comic for the film, for which Kurt Johnstad wrote the screenplay. Focus Features has bought the US rights bfor a reported eight figures earlier this year.
Theron herself is among the producers, as well as playing a skilled intelligence operative called into action when an undercover MI6 spy is killed just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Our heroine has to track down a list he was smuggling to the West in order to prevent her and her colleagues becoming endangered by the release of crucial information. The mission, natch, becomes a deadly game of double-crossing agents and global agendas. Goodman is set to play an American agent working with Theron and McAvoy.
Leitch and his comrade Chad Stahelski are much in demand at the moment, developing a John Wick sequel and leaping aboard projects such as Cowboy Ninja Viking and fellow graphic novel adaptation Bloodshot. The Coldest City is currently in pre-production, for an expected release sometime in 2016.
