Idris Elba is on our screens now, keeping watch over Asgard as Heimdall in Thor: The Dark World. It seems he’s also ready to protect somewhere a little more down to Midgard - er, Earth - in a future role, as he’s set to star in indie action thriller **Bastille Day.
The screenplay, written by Andrew Baldwin, zeroes in on an American operative who must interrogate – and potentially terminate – a young fellow countryman who is considered the prime suspect in an attack on the Paris metro network. The US government wants the case brushed under the rug to avoid a diplomatic incident, until our hero discovers that not only is the lad innocent, but he may be the sole link to the person who is actually responsible for the violence.
No director has been hired yet, and this one is still in development, so it might be a while before it starts filming. Still, Elba has plenty to keep him occupied, including promoting Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, which arrives here on January 3. He’s shot **Second Coming **and No Good Deed, and is currently at work on The Gunman alongside Sean Penn. What's more, we remain living in hope that the Luther film will actually enter production within the next year or so.
