The world of high fashion can be a soap opera at the best of times. And the Gucci family history has seen more than its fair share of wild and crazy ructions.

Now Paramount is wrapping a script by World Trade Center writer Andrea Berloff around the concept and shoving it on to the development catwalk. And who better to direct it than a man who knows everything about fashion, is regular seen at all the best shows and never shows up without at least one brand new accessory every day… Ridley Scott? Actually it makes sense, given the director's background in commercials, and when you take just a brief glance at Gucci history, you can see why he’d be attracted to the high drama - it's not too far removed from opera, or a certain Roman epic.

You think your family’s got issues? Meet Paolo Gucci, who considered shopping his father, Aldo Gucci to the police for tax fraud. Or Patrizia Gucci, married to Maurizio, who was shot dead in 1995. She was portrayed as the world’s most famous widow for three years before it was revealed that she paid to have him killed. You can just imagine the marriage counselling bills that saved.

Berloff will re-write the script with input from Scott, who is busy on American Gangster. Once a new draft is complete, the director will decide if it makes the cut as his next project. But you know he’s just doing it for a free handbag.
