With the likes of Atomic Blonde and John Wick, action cinema seems to be in rude health at the moment – a trend that The Villainess is hoping to continue. A new hyper-kinetic action movie from South Korean director Byung-gil Jung, The Villainess is generating positive buzz from all corners, and we've got our hands on an exclusive first UK trailer, plus the first poster. Take a look below.

Ok-bin Kim plays Sook-Hee, a girl primed from childhood to be a deadly assassin. After a decade in service, she hopes to escape her executioner life – but when a couple of shady characters from her past show up, a bloody journey of vengeance follows. Think Kill Bill meets La Femme Nikita, then.

If the trailer is anything to go by, expect first-person fisticuffs, cameras being flung into moving buses, swordfights between three speeding motorcycles, and more deliriously fun action choreography than you can shake a gun at.

Having screened out of competition at this year's Cannes, The Villainess receives its UK premiere at FrightFest on 27 August, before being released to UK cinemas and digital HD on 15 September.
