The doctor is in! For the new issue of Empire magazine, on sale from Thursday 23 March, there’s an extensive exit interview with the departing Doctor Peter Capaldi and his long-serving departing showrunner Steven Moffat. And we’ve got our hands on a couple of exclusive images – take a look.

The first shows Capaldi’s Doctor in a classic pose, emerging from the TARDIS and confronting his time-old enemies the Daleks.

The second shows returning star Matt Lucas as Nardole – intriguingly, holding what appears to be the Sonic Screwdriver of the Fourth Doctor.

“The terrible thing is, the moment you get the job you know you’re going to have to leave it,” says Capaldi from the Cardiff set of the tenth series. “That might just be part of my doomy, melancholic nature, but as soon as I became the Doctor I immediately propelled my mind to this spot. But that’s fine. I’ve never really done anything for three or four years [Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It excepted] — it’s not my style really.”

This is, of course, just a taste of our extensive six-page Doctor Who coverage, plus a TARDIS’ worth of movie and TV exclusives, be sure to pick up a copy of the new issue of Empire, on sale from Thursday 23 March.
