Clearly emboldened by the success of Maleficent and without waiting to see how its latest adaptations of Cinderella or The Jungle Book perform, Disney has been digging through its animated archives again and has come up with Dumbo. Transformers: Age Of Extinction** writer Ehren Kruger has been hired to turn the elephant tale into a live action adventure.

Presumably, this updated take on the 1941 classic will blend CG with real-world settings to retell the tale of the elephant born with comically huge ears. Initially mocked for his giant lobes, Dumbo has the last laugh – and learns some important life lessons to boot – when his best pal, Timothy Q. Mouse, helps him learn how to fly.

It’s early days for the new project, which so far only boasts Kruger on writing duty with Tron: Legacy producer Justin Springer set to produce. Dumbo represents the latest ‘toon title the Mouse House is pushing into the remake machinery; Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella is due out next March, while** The Jungle Book** is in pre-production with Jon Favreau overseeing matters and Beauty And The Beast is questing through development via Bill Condon.
