If you're worried what Deadpool might substitute for a partridge and a pear tree this festival month - and you'd probably be right to be - all will be revealed soon. The Merc with the Mouth is seizing Christmas this year with '12 Days of Deadpool', beginning with a new viral video and this new poster. Yes, he has a big gun. Stop sniggering at the back.

Ryan Reynolds is, of course, St. Wade, hustling back to the screen the superhero who suffered worst from the X-Men Origins: Wolverine debacle. "Everyone hates what they did to Wade Wilson in that," points out director Tim Miller, "but nobody blames Ryan for it." No chance of those mistakes being repeated here. This incarnation of Deadpool is mouthy and spoiling for a fight. The nefarious types who make him what he is - this is an origin story that takes in his terminal illness and the birth of his powers - will be on the receiving end of both.

For much, much more on the movie head to Empire's exclusive breakdown of its most recent trailer, courtesy of its director Tim Miller.

With T.J. Miller, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, Brianna Hildebrand and Gina Carano also appearing, Deadpool hits UK screens on February 4. Unless she's unexpectedly into swears, violence and intense mayhem, don't take your grandma.
