Kicking off the first official day of the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, team Kingsman brought some footage of The Golden Circle to show, including the opening to the movie. That is – somewhat predictably – not online, but the new trailer is lurking below for your viewing needs.
Before anything else, there was a meeting for the ages, as Taron Egerton's Eggsy met Sterling Archer (voiced by that series' H. Jon Benjamin). We'd describe it, but we don't need to! It's online....
With Matthew Vaughn sending his apologies (and a video message from the editing room in the UK), the panel was hosted by Jonathan Ross, who brought out cast members Egerton, Colin Firth, Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Pedro Pascal and Jeff Bridges, plus screenwriter Jane Goldman and comics legend Dave Gibbons, who co-created the original Kingsman comic.
In a freewheeling, fun panel (which included Halle Berry chugging a large glass of whiskey, egged on by her colleagues and the crowd), various matters were discussed, including the correct pronunciation of "lasso" ("we called it a rope!" proclaimed Bridges), and how Egerton believes Matthew Vaughn wants him to suffer.
Before things kicked off, Vaughn introduced the opening to the film, a whizzy, kinetic, and action-packed set piece that should please fans of the first film and those who enjoy Egerton punching others. Talking of... (spoiler alert!) With Charlie (Edward Holcroft) attempting to shanghai Eggsy, it's the kick off for a wild car chase featuring a souped-up Kingsmen cab, some very surprised police officers, a nasty crash and a chance for our hero to show off his ability to hold his breath.
A second clip gave Tatum's Agent Tequila the requisite cool introduction, when Eggsy and Mark Strong's Merlin attempt to break into the Statesmen facility, hidden within a whisky distillery. Eggsy may have met his match...
Finally, there was a chance to properly meet Julianne Moore's Poppy, a chipper businesswoman with a criminal empire, a hidden base that's part jungle lair and part retro Americana and a loyalty policy that uses violence to enforce its demands. This is not a woman who minces words... Let's leave it at that.
The new, red band trailer can be found below.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be out on 20 September.
