It's that time of year again when red carpet upholsterers find themselves in high demand: yes, the BFI London Film Festival is back, for its 61st edition, and the Closing Night gala has just been announced as Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, the latest film from In Bruges director Martin McDonagh.

An original and typically foul-mouthed tale from McDonagh, Three Billboards... tells the story of Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand), a grieving mother who grows impatient when there are no leads in late daughter's murder case. Desperate, she erects the three billboards of the title in her sleepy Midwest town to put pressure on the chief of police William Willoughby (Woody Harrelson). When the petulant second-in-command Officer Dixon (Sam Rockwell) gets involved, things get out of hand fast. Abbie Cornish, John Hawkes and Peter Dinklage also star.

The film will earn the full red carpet treatment on Sunday 15 October at the historic Odeon Leicester Square, with McDonagh, McDormand, Rockwell and other cast members in attendance.

The 61st BFI London Film Festival – in partnership with American Express® – takes place from Wednesday 4 October to Sunday 15 October 2017. The full Festival programme – including a very exciting Empire gala – will be announced on Thursday 31 August 2017. Tickets go on sale 14 September but BFI Members' priority booking opens a week earlier, so you should probably just join the BFI. Head the to BFI website for full details.
